Cholesterol

Cholesterol is a type of fat which is made in the liver and is also found in some foods.

It's important to have some cholesterol, because it aids digestion and it helps us to build cells, to make vitamins and hormones.

However, if we have too much cholesterol it can build up in fatty deposits in our arteries, putting pressure on our heart and our blood system. This can lead to heart attacks, strokes and other serious and potentially fatal conditions, including dementia.
